My curatorial work stems from a desire to create space to bring together artists of visual and performative mediums that challenge the way that we think about the world, our bodies, sexuality, and ourselves. I’m most inspired to curate artists whose work is raw, visceral, and opens a window into their unique experience of the world.
I strive to curate work that opens space in ourselves to experience emotions and desires, pain, love, beauty and discover the interconnectedness of the human experience. I have been curating visual and performative art experiences since 2000 and served as the artistic director and head curator of Femina Potens Art Gallery from 2000 to 2013. Other curatorial works of mine include The Art of Restraint, Thin Line Between Art and Sex, Traveling Erotic Art Show, ASKEW Experimental Performance Art and Film Festival, and ArtGasm.
Young has curated over 500 performance art and visual art exhibitions through out the country in the past decade including exhibitions at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Highways Theater in Santa Monica, and The Body Archive in New York City.
